New Eco-Friendly Toys for Tots and Sophisticated Home Decor: Expanded Eco-Artware Toy Line Helps Kenyan Farm Women

Eco-Artware.com announces an expansion of its very specialized environmentally friendly toy collection to include Kenana Knit Toys created by Kenyan farmwomen in the village of Njoro.

"We are delighted to offer a line of imaginative, beautifully made toys that are environmentally responsible and also provide a higher standard of living for women artists who live in an economically depressed area, says Eco-Artware.com owner, Reena Kazmann.

The new toys, which include a magical mermaid, a 'giant' elephant, a baby cinnamon bear, and a wart hog, involves a production system of three groups: the first group uses old bicycle wheels to hand- spin wool from local sheep; another group colors it with natural plant dyes; and a third group hand knits the unique toys.

Profits from Kenana's sales pays high wages to the workers and provides additional benefits including literacy programs, eye exams and eyeglasses, and health facilities.

"Because the toys are visually charming, well made and use eco- friendly materials, we jumped at the opportunity to feature them, Kazmann says.

Eco-Artware promotes "green" design by offering only products made from recycled, reused, and natural materials. Eco-Artware features a wide variety of items including handbags and totes made from recycled vinyl billboards, authentic sea glass jewelry, chairs and trays made from retired aluminum traffic signs, and baby blankets that are machine-knitted from recycled cotton.

The company, in operation since 1999, now presents work by 28 cutting edge artists who design products for men, women, children, home and office.
